In the early 1900's North American turkey populations were almost depleted and it is believed that less then 30,000 wild turkeys remained in the US due to hunting pressure and destruction of turkey habitat. Today the wild turkey population of North American is believed to be over 7 million, and wild turkeys inhabit every state in the US with the exception of Alaska. The wild turkey also ranges into parts of Mexico and Canada.
