Spring turkey hunting permits are now available from the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. The archery season is March 25-May 31. The youth shotgun season is April 7-May 31 and the regular shotgun season is April 14-May 31.

Hunters may purchase their fall turkey permits now through the end of the year, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. The fall season is Sept. 15-Dec. 31.
Nebraska Turkey Hunters See Mixed Results Over Opening Weekend by Chris Larsen
Turkey hunters gave it their best shot when the shotgun season opened April 16. Results were mixed, though, as the season opened on the heels of a spring storm that brought snow, rain and muddy and impassable roads across much of the state.
Nebraska Removes Restrictions On Crossbow Hunting by Chris Larsen
The Nebraska Game and Parks Board of Commissioners approved the wider use of crossbows as big game hunting equipment at its Oct. 28 in Norfolk.
All restrictions on crossbows have been removed, including the disability provision and draw weight. The new regulations allow, starting in 2011, crossbows as legal archery equipment for big game (deer, antelope, elk, turkey, and bighorn sheep).

Each spring, the National Wild Turkey Federation’s wildlife biologists hear the fears of concerned hunters who don't understand that prescribed burns in March and April -- months generally known as wild turkey nesting months -- are far more beneficial than harmful to wild turkey populations. However, the NWTF's wildlife biologists have research showing the years of improved nesting and brood habitat created by a growing season prescribed fire is far more important to the turkey population than the loss of a few nests.
