Maine Turkey Hnting Guides & Outfitters

Before the Early 1970's there were no wild turkeys found in Maine.  Inital stockings of 41 turkeys were captured in Vermont and released in Main.  Today Maines turkey flock is many estimated 1000's of birds across the coastal areas of Maine and far inland as well.

Landowners Recognized for Allowing Outdoor Enthusiasts to Access Their Land
Augusta – The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and the Maine Snowmobile Association on Tuesday honored private, municipal and corporate landowners for their generosity in opening up their land to outdoor enthusiasts.

Six individuals or entities received recognition at the annual Landowner Relations Awards Banquet on Tuesday, Oct. 21 in Augusta, which was sponsored by IF&W and hosted by MSA.

Prescribed Burns in Spring Improve Wild Turkey Habitat

Each spring, the National Wild Turkey Federation’s wildlife biologists hear the fears of concerned hunters who don't understand that prescribed burns in March and April -- months generally known as wild turkey nesting months -- are far more beneficial than harmful to wild turkey populations. However, the NWTF's wildlife biologists have research showing the years of improved nesting and brood habitat created by a growing season prescribed fire is far more important to the turkey population than the loss of a few nests.
