Hunting input meetings slated for southern Minnesota

Simplifying deer hunting regulations will be a primary focus of public input meetings to be held by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in southern Minnesota in March and April.

Ken Varland, DNR southern region wildlife manager, said the DNR has received suggestions from its 13-member citizen committee on ways to simplify what some consider to be overly complex deer hunting regulation framework. (The committee’s complete report is available online at mndnr.gov/hunting/deer/simplify.)

“Now we will explain the suggestions and ideas we have received from that committee to the general deer hunting public for their reaction,” Varland said. “If you are a deer hunter we encourage you to attend one of the meetings.”

Meetings will be held:

  • March 27, Marshall, 7-9 p.m., (Southwest Minnesota State University, 1501 State Street, Charter Hall, room CH201)
  • April 8, Worthington, 7-9 p.m., (Minnesota West Community and Technical College, 1450 Collegeway - Fine Arts Building Theater)

It's about time they simplify the regulations. Last year I had to hire a lawyer to figure out what zone I was in and if I was able to shoot a buck.
