The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission has approved the 2011-12 hunting seasons during its May meeting which concluded Friday (May 20) at the Ray Bell Region II Office Building.

Deer hunters will take to the woods Saturday, Nov. 20 for the traditional opening of Tennessee’s first segment of gun season in all three of the state’s deer hunting units. Again this year, the season dates for all three units (A, B & L) will be the same. The segments are Nov. 20-Dec. 5 and Dec. 18-Jan. 9, 2011.

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency expects bowhunters to be out in force for Tennessee’s 2010 archery deer hunting season which kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 25. The deer archery season will again be divided into three segments statewide this year. The first segment runs from Sept. 25-Oct. 29 while the remaining two will be Nov. 1-5, and Dec. 6-17.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Nicole Hafer from Zanesville, Ohio, received the National Wild Turkey Federation's 2008 Conservation Educator of the Year Award during a special ceremony at the NWTF's 33rd annual Convention and Sport Show in Nashville.

Hafer is an education specialist with the Muskingum Soil and Water Conservation District. She teaches outdoor education classes to local youth from grades K-12, in addition to courses at Zane State College.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Grand National Callmaking judges graded hundreds of game calls on appearance and sound quality before crowning the 2009 champions during the National Wild Turkey Federation's 33rd annual Convention and Sport Show, held at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center Feb. 19 to Feb. 22.

Each year, the NWTF's convention is a gathering place for outdoors enthusiasts in search of the latest outdoor gear, hunting and game calling techniques, entertainment and fun. This year's convention attracted thousands of sportsmen and women that appreciate and use game calls and understand how a call is supposed to look and sound.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. Legendary turkey hunter and author Col. Tom Kelly of Spanish Fort, Ala., was recognized as the National Wild Turkey Federation's 2009 Communicator of the Year at the Federation's 33rd annual Convention and Sport Show in February. Kelly's first book, "Tenth Legion," has long been considered the best, and funniest, book on the quest for the lonesome longbeard.

"Col. Kelly has spread the turkey hunting word through a writing style all his own," said NWTF Editorial Director Burt Carey. "He is the voice for a legion of outdoors enthusiasts. You can't help but be drawn into whatever adventure or misadventure he conveys. Tom Kelly has promoted the wild turkey and the NWTF as much as anyone and continues to do so. His first book brought the sport into the limelight and is considered by many to be the bible of turkey hunting."

NASHVILLE, Tenn. The National Wild Turkey Federation presented Outdoor Channel television network with its Corporate Achievement Award for outstanding efforts in promoting wildlife conservation and hunting.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. A record crowd of more than 43,000 people filled Nashville, Tenn., this weekend for the National Wild Turkey Federation's 33rd annual Convention and Sport Show, breaking the previous attendance record set in Nashville in 2007.
