NWTF Unveils New Publication-Turkey Country
The National Wild Turkey Federation is introducing a brand-new, full-color publication-Turkey Country. The new magazine will take the place of the Federation's four main publications-Turkey Call, Women In The Outdoors, Get in the Game and Wheelin' Sportsmen-beginning in September 2009. "Turkey Country is not just a new name, it's an entirely new magazine," said Burt Carey, NWTF editorial director. "We're taking the best of all the NWTF's titles and rolling them into a brand-new, exciting book with a cutting edge look. It's the publication of the NWTF and all its programs."

NWTF's Hunting Heritage Super Fund Dollars Reach Far and Wide
EDGEFIELD, S.C.-The National Wild Turkey Federation distributed more than $314,000 in May 2009 as it continues to advance its mission of benefiting wildlife conservation and protecting hunting traditions. The monies are distributed to states and programs through the NWTF Hunting Heritage Super Fund.

The Hunting Heritage Super Fund supports the NWTF's multitude of conservation and education programs with money raised from NWTF Hunting Heritage Banquets, donated by corporate sponsors and given to benefit wildlife conservation.

Michael Waddell Named NWTF Spokesman

Michael Waddell, the outdoor industry's charismatic television show host, has agreed to become the official spokesman for the National Wild Turkey Federation.  In this new role, Waddell will represent the NWTF as host of its television series, "Turkey Call," which airs on Outdoor Channel. In addition, Waddell will assume emcee duties at the organization's national convention, which will be held Feb. 19 to 22, 2009, in Nashville, Tenn. Members also will be treated to personal appearances by Waddell at many other NWTF events.

No Child Left Inside Grantees Announced

The S.D. Game, Fish and Parks Department has announced the grant recipients for this year's No Child Left Inside small grant program.  "We received nearly 60 applications for this year's funding. That was a tremendous response, especially since this was the first year we've offered the program," said Chad Tussing, education services coordinator for the GFP Division of Wildlife. Applications were scored by a team of reviewers. A total of $5,000 was allotted for the small grant program.  Applicants requested amounts between $500 and $1,000 each.

Renewed Partnership to Help NWTF Conservation, Outreach Efforts

The National Wild Turkey Federation's recently renewed agreement with Bank of America will help more than 500,000 NWTF volunteers and staff to continue to improve wildlife habitat and preserve our nation's hunting traditions.

Prescribed Burns in Spring Improve Wild Turkey Habitat

Each spring, the National Wild Turkey Federation’s wildlife biologists hear the fears of concerned hunters who don't understand that prescribed burns in March and April -- months generally known as wild turkey nesting months -- are far more beneficial than harmful to wild turkey populations. However, the NWTF's wildlife biologists have research showing the years of improved nesting and brood habitat created by a growing season prescribed fire is far more important to the turkey population than the loss of a few nests.

Biologists Say Recent Flooding Won’t Harm Wild Turkeys

The C.B. McCleod Award is given each year to a NWTF volunteer who has dedicated his or her life to wildlife, conservation and our hunting heritage. It is given in honor of NWTF volunteer C.B. McCleod, a banker from Crestview, Fla., who was instrumental in keeping the NWTF moving forward during its formative years.
