Welcome to Kentuckys' Eden Ridge Hunt Club and thank you for visiting our site. If you enjoy hunting for upland birds, whitetail deer and eastern turkey then you have come to one of the best places available in the State of Kentucky. Not only do we have the abundant wildlife you are looking for, our setting is second to none in terms of natural beauty and convenience.
At Eden Ridge, our primary goal is to provide superb habitat for quail, pheasant and chuckar. Our intense management for upland birds also greatly enhances the quality of our trophy deer and turkey population. We believe our superior habitat affords the greatest opportunity for our guests to experience the most memorable hunt imaginable. Our hunting preserve is comprised of over 1800 acres of picturesque rolling hills located in central Kentucky near the town of Sadieville, just north of Lexington. Roughly half of the preserve is covered with hardwood forests containing cedar thickets and smaller food plots with the remainder in upland fields with larger food plots. 2007 has been a tough year due to the drought we have experienced. Luckily, we did get a period of rainfall in early August that helped salvage our bird hunting fields. The whitetail plots did suffer with big production losses to complete failures of our specialty food plots. Our corn fields were actually consumed before ears formed on the plant. At first glance we thought the acorn crop was going to make fairly well but in the end, most of the nuts were absent inside what looked like a healthy acorn.
Upland Bird Hunting
Our wild quail population continues to rebound due to our improvements in quail habitat. We still haven't perfected the program but continue to tweak the plots and cover to create the perfect balance. The drought of course did effect the quality of the plots this year. This Spring we will perform controlled burns on all of our fields and pastures after missing last year. For those of you that have been out, we plan to convert all of the front fields from fescue to native plants and grasses. It won't look as pretty but it is what the quail voted for and they won. We will drill a mixture milo, sorghum, millet, lespedeza, sunflower, sudan, wheat, rye and warm season grasses into all of the reclaimed fescue fields. We did not see as many young birds this past year and we attribute that to the lack of controlled burns last Spring. Even with spectacular results, our wild bird population alone will never be able to satisfy the hunter demand placed upon our preserve. For that reason, we do supplement our wild birds with pen raised birds. The combination of releasing hard flying flight trained birds and using a technique of releasing birds at specified intervals throughout the season, instead of only placing birds in the field just prior to hunters taking to the field, allows the birds to more readily adapt to their environment while providing our hunters with a realistic hunting challenge unique to wild upland birds. Our experienced guides with seasoned bird dogs are standing by to show you that great upland bird hunting can still be found in Kentucky. We also offer an excellent bird dog training area for our guests. Check out the Upland Birds page for more information on our bird hunting packages. If you don't see the package you like, let us know and we will make every attempt to put your package together.
Field Trials
In 2007, we have developed a great field trial program. We were fortunate enough to attract the English Springer Spaniel Field Trial Associations' annual National Specialty Hunt Test and field Trial on 29-30 September. Over 50 dogs were tested and the event was a huge success according to all involved. If you or your club would like to hold a trial on the preserve, we will do everything we can to accomodate your needs. We have developed exceptional trial fields and we have a 3 acre pond with an island and other features that make it very desirable for water retrieving events. If you know your club is planning an event for this Fall, contact us and we will specifically design an area to your clubs needs.
Whitetail Hunting for 2008 (Archery Only Transition)
Our Whitetail program is in transition for 2008. We have transitioned to a 10 member archery only club this year. All memberships are presently taken. Each member will be allowed one trophy per year (140 inch minimum) and unlimited does. Each member will also be allowed two gobblers and two hens to be taken by bow or shotgun. The archery season runs from September 1 to January 15th. If you are interested, drop us an email. There is an interview process for the memberships. We do maintain a waiting list for these memberships so if this program sounds like something that may interest you, contact us for more information.
Turkey Hunting
The turkey hunting at Eden Ridge is, in our opinion, as good as it gets in the United States. On an average Spring day, our hunters will hear 3 to 5 groups of birds gobbling from different locations at daybreak. From then on, it is man against a very smart bird of his choice. For a real challenge, try a combination archery hunt for deer and turkey. It is common to have fifteen to thirty birds pass within shooting range from any of our stand locations. The Fall archery seasons for deer and turkey overlap and this makes for an interesting day afield with the possibility of bagging both of these species on the same hunt. For more information on the variety of turkey hunting packages we offer, check out the Turkey and Dove page.
And Finally
For 2008, we are once again increasing our acreage of small game plots. These plots are interspersed with hundreds of acres of wildlife safe-haven which will provide the habitat necessary for our game to thrive. We have the habitat and the wildlife. The only thing missing is you. We can tailor your hunt to suit any particular special needs. We also welcome corporate clients and stand ready to tailor a corporate program for your company. Our Registered Kentucky Hunting Guides are ready and waiting to guide you on a hunt that you will treasure for a lifetime, so give us a call.
