Plan Ahead to Enter the Alabama Waterfowl Stamp Contest by host

Alabama artists should start making plans now to enter the 2008 Alabama Waterfowl Stamp art contest. The annual contest, sponsored by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division, is open to resident Alabama artists only. Entries will be accepted from Jan. 1- Feb. 15, 2008. The winning artwork will be used as the design for the 2009-10 Alabama Waterfowl Stamp which is required to be purchased when hunting migratory waterfowl.

IMPROVED WATERFOWL POPULATIONS LEAD U.S. FISH AND WILDLIFE SERVICE TO CONTINUE LIBERAL WATERFOWL REGULATIONS FOR UPCOMING HUNTING SEASON by host

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service today proposed continuation of liberal hunting regulations for the upcoming 2007-2008 late waterfowl seasons due to improved habitat conditions and waterfowl population estimates. Duck hunting season lengths will be 60 days in both the Atlantic and Mississippi Flyways, 74 days in the Central Flyway, and 107 days in the Pacific Flyway.

Hooded Mergansers Chosen for Alabama Waterfowl Stamp by host

A pair of hooded mergansers painted by Jim Denney of Alexander City is the winner of the 2007 Alabama Waterfowl Stamp Art Contest. The winning artwork will adorn the 2008-2009 Alabama Waterfowl Stamp. Denney is a first-time participant in the contest and faced competition from 17 other paintings, including one from his brother John Denney, also of Alexander City.
