Wyoming Deer Hunting & Elk Hunting
Wyoming offers a wide variety of deer hunting opportunities including Mule Deer, Elk, Whitetail and Antelope. The Range mule deer herd occupies in Wyoming is an estimated 4,437 miles from the Hoback River south to the Redeye Basin, and encompasses much of the land west of the Green River to the Idaho border, which contains the Wyoming and Salt River mountain ranges. Ownership of the land is distributed between U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and state and private property, and provides various seasonal habitats defined largely by elevation. Wyoming is home to some monster Whitetail deer. The species isn't the attraction of its big-eared cousin, because most hunters coming here have whitetails in their home state. The epicenter of their range in Wyoming -- the Black Hills -- offers about the only public whitetail access and some solid hunting is predicted this fall, says Daryl Lutz. Outside of the Black Hills, hunters need to be mindful that almost all whitetails are on private land and plan to get permission to hunt. Wyoming Elk Hunting continues to be one of main reasons hunters visit Wyoming. Not only is the elk a favorite of sportsmen, but also other wildlife enthusiasts value the elk for its royal posture, impressive size and photographic potential.

| ACCESSYES DONATIONS PROVIDE MORE PLACES TO HUNT AND FISH by host | Wyoming- For more than 10 years Hunters in Wyoming and anglers The AccessYes program was set up shortly after the walk-in area program began as a method to provide a payment source to compensate landowners for providing access. Game and Fish state access coordinator Matt Buhler said that in 2008, hunters and fisherman gave $131,375 to AccessYes. An additional $45,261 was gifted by conservation organizations and sportsmen. "Most of the donations are made at the time of license purchase," according to Buhler.

The application deadline is normally May 31, but since that falls on a weekend this year, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department will accept applications received by 5 p.m. mountain time on June 1. Carter was convicted of taking big game from a vehicle, waste and abandonment and trespassing, in addition to taking an antlered deer during a closed season. | | Agencies Urge Wyoming Hunters to Carry and Use Bear Spray by bigbuck | | | CWD Detected in new hunt areas in Casper Region- Wyoming by bigbuck | CASPER-- Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) has been discovered for the first time in elk hunt area 117 and deer hunt area 2 near Sundance.
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department Laboratory analyzed a sample from a targeted cow elk from hunt area 117 and the sample tested positive for CWD. The elk was found at Solider Creek, just east of Highway 85 about 5 miles west of the South Dakota border. Elk hunt area 117 has been considered part of the endemic area for deer (hunt area 6) since 2003. "This area has long been positive for deer and we just now found a positive elk in this area," said Hank Edwards, wildlife disease specialist for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. |
