Arizona Deer Hunting

The deer is by far the most popular and abundant big-game animal in Arizona.  Arizona has two different species of deer, the mule deer and the whitetail deer.  The Rocky Mountain Mule Deer ranges across the State of Arizona and  is the more abundant of the two species.  Arizona's other deer, the white-tailed deer is most common found  in Arizona's southeastern mountains, but range up to the edge of the Mogollon Rim and into the White Mountains.

Range: 30-50 sq. miles

Predators: Mountain Lion, Coyote and Eagle

2008 Arizona Deer Season Outlook-  Favorable weather conditions and low winter kill in Arizona make for a favorable outlook for deer hunters this season.  More deer tags are going to be issued in Arizona this year and there may even be left over deer tags this fall.

Public Land For Deer Hunting In Arizona

Hunting Mule Deer On Public Land In Arizona: The Kaibab is located in the northern part of the state and is famous around the country for it's trophy mule deer potential. Many mule deer tags are available for this unit and the average hunter has a good chance of pulling a tag for the Kaibab unit. If you hunt unit 12 a be prepared for high elevation hunts. Hiding in the ponderosa pines in the high elevations of unit 12a are were you may find the trophy mule deer. If you like to hunt the more traditional habitat like buck brush and sage brush at the lower elevations check out Unit 12b.

Hunting Whitetail on Public Land In Arizona: The southern part of Arizona offers a abundance of good whitetail hunting in the grasslands and oak savannahs. A lot of the southern part of Arizona is private land so make sure you get permission to hunt and know where you are hunting. Units 30a or 30b have earned a reputation as the place to hunt monster whitetails in Arizona but check out units 29, 31 and 32 as well. These units offer good public access for whitetail hunting.
