I just purchased a new owl locator call and it dosen't sound like any owl I've ever heard.  I guess I was expecting to hear a Hoo Hoo type sound and it sounds like a duck if you blow it soft and it makes some other weird noise if you blow loud.  How the heck are you suppose to use a call like this and is it suppose to sound like a screetch owl or something?

It should make the hoo hoo sound.  Who, who, who cooks for you is the saying.

No matter what I do it sounds bad. I get a funky duck call sound or some weird screatch sound. Do you think I should take it back? Will turkeys respond to a crow call at dusk and dawn while on roost?

The call is "The 8-note call of the barred owl has a rasp that is heard only when you are extremely close. This is the sound that we have found turkeys will respond to the best. We have designed the Primos Power Owl to accurately reproduce this sound with strong volume, to locate even the wariest of gobblers."

Maybe a Barred owl sounds different then a regular owl?  Here is what it is suppose to sound like:  http://www.owlpages.com/sounds/Strix-varia-1.mp3

I'll try and post what mine sounds like later.  It isn't even close.

I was on a walk with my 4-year old the other day, and as usual stuffed some locator and diaphragm call in my pockets. I had two birds answering my 4-year old who was laying in the crow call really heavy. It didn't matter what the sound was, any loud noise set them off; dogs barking, harley's in the distance... I guess it is best to try many different calls - Archer

I've heard of guys using an air horn in a can to locate turkeys. I would be afraid to try it however for fear of being tarred and feathered by other hunters.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU'VE GOT AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM
