It should make the hoo hoo sound.  Who, who, who cooks for you is the saying.

The call is "The 8-note call of the barred owl has a rasp that is heard only when you are extremely close. This is the sound that we have found turkeys will respond to the best. I was on a walk with my 4-year old the other day, and as usual stuffed some locator and diaphragm call in my pockets. I had two birds answering my 4-year old who was laying in the crow call really heavy. It didn't matter what the sound was, any loud noise set them off; dogs barking, harley's in the distance... I guess it is best to try many different calls - Archer
