Have any of you tried to make your own homemade turkey call? It dosen't look to hard. I was looking closley at my store bought box call and it looks like I could make one pretty easily. |

Good box calls have that sweet spot on them. Do you think you could replicate that? I tried to find some instructions but came up empty. I did find some on a tube call, however I have never used one before. Here is the link:

| I'm all thumbs, but I have some old furniture around. Maybe this weekend I'll try and take it apart and make my self a homeade call. It looks pretty straight forward. |

You can spend a ton on a turkey call. I might give this homemade call a try. I have a old coffee table that is just begging me to put it out of it's misery. |

Everyone need to get into call making.... For me, it's my secret weapon. Got to making three piece wingbone turkey calls many years ago. All three pieces come out of the wing of the wild turkey and each and every one sound different. The beauty is that not many hunters use them and many time I've slipped in behind another caller, make a few calls and have that turkey run over me, he'd not heard "the bone" before. Yes, I carry my box, dia, slate, fighting purrs, but for the tuff turkeys, I go for my BONE |

| So which comes fist the turkey or the wing? Do you glue the call togeather? I can't seem to find anything on the net about how to make a wing bone call. It sounds pretty good though and I've heard a few other old timers talking about a wingbone call as well. |

Really nothing too it, best piece of advise I can give ya, ask an indian, they have used them far longer than I
They ar really easy to make. First, go the the grocery store and buy the smallest turkey wing you can find. I like to get the smoked ones, they taste good These are all three of the bones you need to make the call. The big one becomes the "bell", the bigger one of the two wing tips is the second one and the smaller bone of the two tip bones is the end or the one you put inot you mouth. Cut the ends off of all three using a hack saw or band saw, the will can can splintle so be careful. Next boil the meat out of the bones and you can add some household bleach to the water so it will whiten them up a bit( if desired). Aften they a boiled, 15 or 20 mins. let them cool off then with "something small and pointed" like a coat hanger, get all the meat out of the bones. More you get, the better the call will sound. After that you sound be able to fit one into the other, about 1/2" will be fine. I use two part epoxy to glue the three bones together and you can let your imagination run wild with any detail you wish to put on the call. Lanyards, beads, colored wrappings, you name it, it's been done. Once you go throught the process on your "store bought" wing, use it to kill the wild one and the smaller the bone the more like a hen it will sound and the more you get your hands on, the more you can change the pitches, big bells with small mouth pieces, two bones instead of the three piece call. They all work and they are all good, just some are better than others! Good Luck& have fun |

| Hey Cut_un. I don't know why but it never dawned on me that I could make a call from a butterball or jenneo. I was all set to wait till next year when I got a bird. Now I can't wait to get to the grocrey store. I guess I'll leave the camo and my gun at home though. |

Trust me they do work, some old timers say that they need to be made from a wild turkey as the "store bought" bones are too brittle. Only problem I see is that most all the "store bought turkeys are too big. But it does get you started in the quest for the perfect bone! Tell you what, goose wings work too |

homemade box calls are not that hard to construct,,,, the yare tough to get them to sound right and have the right tone and volume.
Wingbone calls are not hard at all....tuning them is a trick, but once done, yur done. just be careful as they are fragile in the woods when the excitement hits

Used to make my bones with a cedar bell and a small bone insert. it was removable and trust me, it got removed to the "woods floor" more than once. Now the calls are glued tight |
