Decoys have found their way into most folks vest these days.   I'll tell ya'll a story about a homemade dek one day.  It's a hoot!

 I started carrying a single hen many years ago, then added a jake.  Now and have been successful for some time  is a three decoy set up.   It consist of a jake, 1 up right hen and 1  feeding hen.  I set the upright hen at about 25 yards ,with the jake several feet directly behind her. Then ,off to the side at about another 20 yards I place the feeding hen. It gives the approaching gobbler the idea that at jake is about to breed the hen.  Nine times out of ten, the gobbler will march right pass the hens and get eyeball to eyeball with the jake.......  At that time, it's bye bye

I too have seen them and while it's a good idea and look great, I do'nt think it's really needed. Bet they would look great in wide open areas such as filed setups.   I HAVE had turkeys spook at the deks. Pressured birds will and can be hunter/shy and as you know, it's all about the turkeys frame of mind...on any given day

Trust me, I've nodded off only to wake up and just about Sh*& in my pants at the "TURKEY standing in front of me          They do look real
