I am hoping to take my 7 year old son out on a duck hunt with me this year.  He is most excited about using the duck call but I am a bit worried about letting him go crazy with the call as I am afraid he might scare every duck in the country away.  Any suggestions?

Joe, It is really cool that you are getting your son out and involved. Primos makes a feeder call that you just have to shake and the sound is pretty good. I used it for a budy of mine that didn't know how to call and it worked great.

We give the kids the shaker calls too. The whole idea of taking a kid hunting is to experience "the hunt" and that means talking to the ducks. It won't hurt to have the kids blowing on their calls while the ducks are at a  great distance, but tell them to hold off on the close work. You take over at that point.

And just remember, a live duck would never win a duck calling contest!!

Joe, great news on "passing it on".  I wish you and your new hunting buddy the best of luck with the season.
