Each year on the Sat. before Labor day our Dove Season comes in. Folks get together, do a bit of hunting, then get together for an "old fashioned cook out " and to checkup on the all the gossip er BS.  Folks plan their whole weekend around it.   BUT, not this year, it comes in on Monday( Labor day).   Bet there will be a "bunch" of  mad Southern Boys on Monday... glad I'm not the man that has to check em out   Bet they will be getting an ear full!

Ouch. I am sure they will be getting a ear full. There are a few things you don't mess with in life and peoples holiday plans are on that list. Do you dove hunt? I've never done it before but I hear it is great fun.

Used to do it ever year as I grew up, it was a major event. As folks moved away from Dairy farming and the kids left the farm, it has gotten hard to find spots to hunt. Mostly ,these day folks will either hunt WMAs' and fight the crowds... or pitch in with a small group and do some food plotting( Sunflowers).     It is great fun , will test your skill as a wingshooter, pretty tasty on the table and best of all, gets a gun in your hand and "out of the house " on a  beautiful fall afternoon.

Ever seen those guys in Mexico, or South Texas melting the barrels down..now that looks like fun

A few years ago here in Wisconsin there was a big flap over legalizing dove hunting. It was a really heated debate we even had people protesting against it. It has been legal for the last few years and is starting to gain popularity. I see a few guys planting sunflower food plots around here now but opening day doesn't seem to be such a big deal. Like you said, I would love to go down to Mexico to hunt doves. I can't imagine shooting so much that my gun gets to hot to touch. The closest I've ever gotten to a smoking gun barrel is a tower shoot I went to a few years ago. I think I went through 3 boxes of shells in about 15 minutes.

Dove hunting is great. I would be upset to find out that my hunting tradition was messed up for labor day. Do the guys in VA use dogs for the hunt?

Oh yea, The little birds make a great workout for your favorite "duck dog".

Word of caution thought, does get hot out in that "dove field". You mut will appreciate a cool drink of water from time to time

Talking about tower shoots, we had a guy here that was throwing turkeys of the tower, can you believe that

Wow that would be like trying to shoot down a B52 coming in at you I would think. What size loads would you use for a turkey tower shoot? The one I went to was chuckar and pheasant. The chuckar. It was alot of fun but I still prefer working with my dog in the field.

Yea, me too, not a big fan of a tower shoot as I'm a "working dog" lover.  The shooting the birds is only a small part of the hunt for me!

I think tower shoots are fun for a large group of people and some first time hunters to get a lot of action but once you have shot a few it becomes more about the hunt.

I've never been to a tower shoot, but I suppose I would be willing to try it once.  Now throwing turkeys from the tower reminds me of an old WKRP in Cincinatti show where they threw turkeys from a helicopter....that's off topic.

Dove hunting is gaining in popularity around here and I would like to try it.

That was a great show. Someone loaded up that video in our video section but then they took it back down. I think for copyright reasons. Pretty funny stuff.
