My permit starts next Thursday - Lottery system for turkey hunts here in WI. I have heard from a few guys across the country that it has been a pretty wet season so far. It has rained a bunch here in WI so far this spring so I am keeping my fingers crossed. Got any good tips for Hunting Turkey in the Rain?

Everyone I know has been doing great this year! Im excited to head out in a few weeks. Everyone says it's wet but early morning hunts before the rain comes has been the word. Go get em before the rain does. Rain really keeps them out of the fields from my experience keeping them pinned back in the woods but if you can be out in the woods right after a good rain, you should be golden. Set up on a field so when they make it out of the woods from cover, you should be set.

Must say....NOT TOO GOOD     having lost my lease this year and thinking I'd not have anywhere to go, I did not schedule any time off to "get-er-done... Sooooo, Tomorrow (Sat) will be my second trip out. I did talk a frend into allowing me to hunt his farm not to far from my  home. I've killed turkeys there in the past but last Sat. I only heard one gobbler gobble twice( off the property) and saw nothing.   Did see a lot of sign....and I know the turkeys are there so maybe tomorrow ill be a different story, Hope I have a good story to share. Most of my friends have killed at least one so looks like thing are right in the turkey woods

Got -er-done this morn.( Sat .25th) Set up on a roosted bird located on the edge of a small field. Decided it best to back off and set the decoys out in the field. Got the deks out and was in the process of getting my calls layed out and ready to rock when he flew down. Called to him with my wingbone..... game on.  He did not need too much encouragement as the was ready to rumble. It took all of 8 min. to get him in and  standing in the deks strutting and drumming. He put on quiet the show and by 6:10 he was headed to the truck.    Love it when a plan comes together

Sounds like a text book hunt. Congrts. How many decoys do you typically set out?

Been running three for a number of years now, I've never gotten inot the "pretty boy & pretty girl" decoys, looks to me to be so much to take .   I have a feeder hen that I set off to the side, then an upright hen, which I set on a low stake with a jake decoy directly behind her about 6 to 8 feet. I like to pull the trigger when the gobbler and the jake are eye to eye   Works for me....more time than not!
