I turkey hunt the giant hills of Southwestern Wisconsin and I have a secret weapon.

The land I hunt is consumed with high hills and bluffs atopped with farm fields.  The hills are seemingly divided with more hills, creeks and highway.  It seems like every year, just about when I am about to give up and head back to the cabin, a fire or police vehicle will go by with its' sirens blaring and like a switch was hit, the hills come alive with gobbles in every nook and cranny.

I know turkeys respond to so many random noises as locator calls, I just thinks it's amazing that they respond in such a way to the sirens.

Anybody else have any funny stories or "secret weapons" that they use to locate turkeys?

That's hilarious.  I didn't know they would do this.  I'll be interested to hear of anything else working.

I've heard of guys using air horns to locate turkeys before but I'm not sure if that is proper hunting edict. I would hate to be having a quite day in the woods and hear an air horn going off a few hundred yards away from me.

One of the places we duck hunt has train tracks that run along side the water. When the train hustles through it moves any ducks in the area. Kind of cool to see the train go by when we're hunting too. Just part of the experience.

I've experienced the siren trick while turkey hunting. They blew up when an ambulance passed on the county road a mile off. When the timing is right, just about any sudden or unusual noise will trigger gobbles. They want to establish dominance over anything and everything this time of year.

I've had luck with duck and goose calls, used as locator calls. Usually I don't try to imitate a duck or goose, just a loud blow or two on these calls can cause a "shock gobble". Doesn't always work, but at times it definitely does!
