So this is a question that I, as a young turkey hunter, have been battling with for the past ten years of my turkey hunting experience.  I want to know everyone's experiences and opinions on their preference between the more traditional, sit and call hunting, as opposed to the more physically challenging run-n-gun hunting.

I understand that there are better times of the season and days to do each of these techniques and I'd like to find out more information on each of the types.

Nothing is more frustrating and hunting the large hills and ravines of Southwestern Wisconsin, hearing a gobble just over a ravine, and not knowing whether it's time to move, or just sit and be patient.

Any suggestions or ideas are greatly appreciated!

I don't have any more experience with turkeys than you do, but I figure if I can hear them, they can hear me, and if I move, they'll probably see me before I see them. I sit and wait.

I love the run and gun style of hunting but most of my areasare between 200  to 500 acreas. so can't move around too much!

Runnin'-N-Gunnin' is a lot of fun. This is a strategy I use in the fall unless I KNOW where the birds are going to be. In the spring, if you can hear 'em, let 'em come. If you're not hearing anything keep yelping softly for a while. Eventually, the birds will get competitive. If you don't hear or see anything for a few hours and you're not sold on your spot... by all means get movin'.

If you are dealing with hung up birds here are some sugestions. If you have a hot tom but he is hung up or hen d up, try to call softer as if the hen is moving away. that works at times. If the tom is answering your calls but moving away has hens or is heading for his strutting grounds in those cases I get after him. all in all I suggest the run and gun I beats sitting in the blind all day.

ok first off run and gun is fine if you dont have your turkeys patterend yet. me i like to do it early in the day and early in the season. (by early in the day i mean if i havent killed a bird ive roosted). as the day goes along and if you have found the birds strut zone, then the sit and wait approach is a good idea. as the season progresses and if you have hunted enough to pattern your birds, which seem to have became a little call shy by now, then sit and wait is the way to go in my opinion because you stand a lesser chance of spooking that warry gobbler
