I received as a gift a 2-hour guided hunt - includes dog, guide and 6 pheasants - I believe it's a $280 value - assuming the guide does a good job - what's a suggested tip amount?

I have a hard time with tipping, I expect some one to set a price for their services that they feel covers all their costs, if it is what I think is fair price and I can afford it we have a deal, with that said, this guided hunt seems a little high priced, I have payed a lot less for a lot more, and I have seen some supposed exclusive hunt for more. If someone payed for your gift then they got their price for the hunt, if it was donated as a auction Item then, there is the fact that it is used as advertising and a tax deduction, there is always the 10-15 percent service tip if you think it was worth it

I would tip in the 15 to 20% range. If the dog and the guide do thier job well they deserve it. Usually the handler of the dog is not paid by the outfitter/preserve owner except for the small fee charged for the their services, just my 2 cents worth.

I would agree with both statements above-

280 seems a bit high for 2 hours but not unheard of at a higher end preserve and 15-20% seems to be the going rate for a good hunt tip.

Is it a preserver hunt were they are putting out birds for you? If so I would say the cost breaks down kind of like this:

$50/hour for the guide and dog = $100
6 bird release for $30 each = $180

I'm sure you'll have fun! Enjoy the trip!
