We have some good information on the site about deer stands:

I woudl say a ladder stand would probally work the best depending on the age of your son.  A budy of mine uses a climbing stand and a chain on stand.  He actually climbs the tree with his son on his back and then puts up the chain on stand above where he is sitting and puts his kid in it.  I'm sure this probally is not very safe but it allows him to use portable stands and move around.  If that were my kid as soon as I got him up there he would need to go pee.

2 man ladder stands are pretty heavy to haul around.  If your kid is really young consider a ground blind.  Bring a bunch of snacks and blankets.  Make it a fun event!

Wow, Your buddy is gutsy hauling his kid up on his back. I have used a double tree stand a couple of times. It was one that was already chained into the tree and I simply put up climbing sticks to access it. The sticks are very stable for little ones to gete in and out of the tree.

I've seen him go up the tree with Jr. on his back ... it's pretty impressive

I'm wondering when it will be my turn
