I am writing a article on deer hunting in the rain.  Have any of you hunted deer in the rain?  Has it bee a good experinece or bad?  Do you think deer still move around in the rain?

Here is what I have so far:

Whitetail Hunting In The Rain

If you have any feedback or would like to add some comments on your own experineces with rainy day hunting I would love to hear it.

Hey Matthew,

Great article.  I think next time it's raining I will think twice about getting off my stand early.  I have had some success slow or still hunting in the rain.  It seems like the deer I jump are bedded down most of the time however.

Regards,

Big Buck

Not the deer hunter I once was ...but I've set out in the rain, up a tree all day using an unbrella and a rain suit, and killed some nice deer to boot.  With todays "grounds blinds& shooting houses"  staying home should be :out of the question for todays hunter" unless you ar retired and can hunt tomorrow

really, i dont mind hunting in the rain, i can't half hear anyway, so not being able to hear the der coming is no real disadvantage. can be pretty enjoyable too, if you have some shelter.

I'm with ya on the hearing    I killed my first deer on a rainy New Years day many, many years ago.   Like all has agreed, dressed properly, a rainly day can be a great chance to kill a big-un!

come to think of it, I have had the good fortune to watch a big buck feed in the rain, for about an hour. When it was light he'd stand up and shake off like a dog then feed around. when the rain picked up, he went back to the same spot and layed down, repeated this several times.

hadn't thought of that for years

I love hunting in the rain. You don't get all the hikers, fair weather hunters and ATV's running around. I took a great buck between down pours 3 years ago.

Know one thing... ducks like nasty weather... and if the ducks like it, old cut likes it

I loke hunting in a light rain, it keeps the scent down but you can't hear anything. I guess it is a trade off. Also it keeps most hunters home on the couch, out of the way.

As long as it is not a Thunder and Lightning storm, Ive hunted many times in the rain.
Ive seen Deer moving and have killed some nice bucks in heavy wind and rain. Its well worth it, and as soon as the rain comes to a complete stop it picks up even better. I believe the rain helps wash your scent away, and the deer are not spooked.
One time I used my rattle bag during a heavy rain and actually had 3 different bucks appear minutes apart.
Rain also stops alot of hunters from going out, I think that is also to your advantage if you are the only hunter in the area during a rain.
When you get to hunting in the snow, LOL Thats even more exciting since you can track the prints and stalk them down.

It's funny, I've talked about how I like to hunt in the rain but it was opening day here in Wisconsin and it was just pouring so I decided to stay home. I keep telling myself it's to early anyway and there are to many leaves on the trees but truth be told the rain was a factor for me. I guess old age is making me soft or the fever is still mild grade yet.
